I Have A New Project

Elation

A new project is in and the check is in hand and I’m ready to go to deposit it in the bank.

The meetings went well. The clients are friendly and practical and they know what they want.

Arghhh ! ! !

The elation is replaced with the reality of the project and the responsibility and liability which accompanies all projects.

  1. I must confront doing the work.
  2. I must confront and do the work.
  3. I must do the work to completion and as thoroughly and as perfectly as is humanly possible.
  4. The work must not have any errors or omissions.
  5. The plans must be submitted to Planscheck at the county and be scrutinized by the checkers.
  6. Anything discovered must be corrected.
  7. The plans, when approved, will be used for construction.
  8. The construction must be as perfect as possible and anything which is an issue must be rectified immediately.
  9. The entire process can take months.
  10. The statute of limitations is for years after the project is completed.

This is reality. This is the reality of planning that begins with ideas and ends with the manifestation of all the ideas, plans, details, sections, specifications, and code compliance.

This is very high level responsibility, beyond what is required by most people.

The drafter, the printer of the plans, and others bear no liability, since it is the responsibility of the designer to ensure correctness and completeness of the plans. The planner is also responsible for quality control.

The world of the causes and effects of design and building is extant worldwide. The evidence of the success of the process is irrefutable.

Knowledge, experience, resources, and skill combined with integrity are the components which lead to a successful and enduring completion of planning.
